Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls are the perfect combination of our favorite holiday indulgences; Apple Pie and Cinnamon Rolls. When you combine these flavors you will have everybody’s favorite treat during this festive season.
I have to say that making these Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls is time consuming but definitely worth the effort. Caramelized apples in combination with cinnamon rolls and cream cheese glaze will make your mouth water. Despite the long instructions looking complicated, it is a quite easy recipe.
When you make the dough you can make it by hand and just knead the dough or use a stand mixer with dough hook attachment (I think the second technique is much easier). Just mix all the ingredients together until the dough is smooth and elastic. Put it in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a towel and put the bowl in a warm spot for about 2 hours to rise.
While the dough is rising, we can make caramelized apples filling. Just sauté butter, granulated sugar and chopped apple until slightly soft and set aside. The apple will produce some liquid. Just remove the liquid before you spread the apples over the dough. Otherwise, it will be too watery and the rolls will be gooey.
When the dough is ready, roll it on the floured surface, spread over softened butter, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon mixture and caramelized apples which have been previously drained off the liquid. Roll, cut into 12 even pieces, put them into greased pan and set them aside at warm place for another hour.
Bake them at 350°F for about 30 min or until golden/brown color. Top with cream cheese glaze and enjoy!
