Isn’t it great to share your passion with other people? Show them what you love and care about! Do you love to cook and create new recipes? Do you want to create your own website where you can share your delicious ideas with other foodies? I think it is a great idea! I recently began my Food Blogging, and I couldn’t be happier to share my passion/hobby with all of you and give you some tips on how to start a food blog.
I was following different food blogs for a long time, trying their recipes and creating my own ones. But I never was thinking of starting my own food blog. When I moved from New York to Pennsylvania, I was looking for a job for a couple of months, I had a lot of free time and wasn’t sure what exactly I want to do. So, I started to brainstorm, what would make me happy. One of the things on my bucket list was to write a cook book. So I started to think where I can start…. I can start my own Food Blog that can lead to a cook book in future! I think that was one of my best ideas!
I can tell you, it is time consuming but it is worth it!
If you love to read other Food Blogs and are dreaming of creating your own, today is the day to start! I want to give you a few links that will help you to create your own website.
Domain name and Hosting:
To begin, you should come up with a domain name. What is a domain name? It is the “name” of your website. This is a fun part! It is like choosing a name for your baby.
Choose a name that will be easy to remember, that will reflect the main idea of your blog and what you will write about.
I knew that I wanted to include my own name in the domain, because of the different spelling. The final domain came naturally, VeronikasKitchen.com. This is a simple name that reflects my idea; that I love to cook in my kitchen.
As a beginner, I was overwhelmed with all the information on how to create a website and frankly, I am not that good at all these programs and software, and technical stuff. My boyfriend, who is a professional software developer, advised me to use SiteGround.com. He also uses this platform for his own website (you can check it out on GroveMinting.com). This platform provides all necessary and reliable services for beginners and professionals (domain, hosting and backup), so you don’t have to worry about anything. Plus, they have very affordable rates and great 24/7 customer support!
Once you have you Domain and Hosting set up, you will need your blogging software. I think WordPress.org is the most popular software among food bloggers because it is very easy to use, and it provides a lot of different beautiful themes and plugins that you can choose from. Also, you can easily install it from within SiteGround.com.
As I mentioned before, WordPress.org offers various templates (layouts) for all personal tastes and price budgets. As a beginner, you can choose free themes and start to build your content (find you favorite theme here). I also started with a free template but later decided to switch to Genesis framework Foodie Pro theme, which gave me better abilities to customize my blog.
You can definitely ask professionals to help you to create the website, but I think you will have more fun by doing yourself. Just be creative and experiment. It is easy to play around and change the options when you don’t have too much content.
