This year we are hosting another Christmas dinner and I am in charge of preparing the main dishes. I want to make a few classic recipes that are easy to cook with minimum prepping time.
Glazed Ham is one of those traditional Christmas recipes that everyone loves. So, I decided to make Brown Sugar Maple Glazed Ham that will be the star on our festive holiday table.
When it comes to choosing a brand, it is important to choose quality meat. I like to buy Hatfield Ham products as they are full of flavor, ethically raised, and simply delicious. Did I also mention that it’s American made and family owned!?
I also like that Hatfield offers different sized ham, so it’s easy to serve for a big or small crowd.
The ham I use for this recipe is a 2 pound Hatfield® Uncured Ham. It is perfect for a smaller table like ours! It is sold in many big chain stores, like Acme, which is conveniently located near us.
Also, now Hatfield makes it easier to serve up a delicious holiday meal to your family, big or small, with the NEW smaller sized ham products available in ½ Pre-Sliced Pit Ham, ¼ Pre-Sliced Ham (With Natural Juices or With Water Added). Plus, for a limited time only, you will receive a $2 rebate upon purchase of any Hatfield® Uncured Ham.
How long to bake Ham?
Since the ham is already precooked, we just need to reheat it and create a delicious sweet and flavorful glaze.
The baking time depends on the size of your ham. If you ham is labeled as “precooked”, it takes on average 20 minutes per pound. The internal temperature needs to reach 140°F.
Since my Hatfield® Uncured Ham is 2 pounds, I baked it for 40 minutes.
How to make Brown Sugar Maple Glaze for Ham
Whether you are new to the kitchen or a cooking pro, it’s really hard to mess up this recipe.
Let’s start with making Brown Sugar Maple Glaze!
All you need is just a few ingredients to create a sweet aromatic coating. I also like to add orange juice and zest for fresh citrusy tang and a little bit of good bourbon to give an extra kick.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, maple syrup, orange juice and zest, your favorite bourbon, and a pinch of salt.
The first step is done!
How to bake Brown Sugar Maple Glazed Ham
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Line a baking sheet with foil and place the ham on top.
Score the ham with diagonal cuts, creating a grid pattern, about ½ inch apart and ¼ inch dip.
Using a baking brush, brush the ham with ⅓ of the glaze.
Bake for 20 minutes, then take the ham out and glaze again with ⅓ of the glaze. Continue baking.
Thake it out of the oven and glaze again about 5 minutes before the ham is done. You will have a beautiful shiny glaze.
The total baking time should be about 40 minutes and the internal temperature of the ham should reach 140°F.

I think part of my problem was that I bought a spiral ham for Christmas. I wasn’t overly impressed with it. This one looks delicious, though 🙂 Hope it worked well for your Christmas dinner!
