If you are hosting a party and looking for a quick and healthy snack or appetizer, try this creamy avocado dip. You can make it in just under 5 minutes, using 5 simple ingredients and serve it with tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetables.

These mini snacks shouldn’t be complicated and you need just a few basic ingredients. Similar to 3 Ingredient Cranberry Bites, Cherry Tomato Bruschetta, or Pigs in a Puff Pastry Blanket, they should be quick and easy!

How to pick a ripe avocado

There is nothing worse than cutting in avocado and find out that it’s all brown and over ripe inside or not ripe yet and too rubbery.

If you are not familiar with this vegetable, avocados don’t ripe on the trees, but only after they are harvested. That’s why when you go to the store, you often can find unripen green avocados. They are absolutely fine if you will use them in a couple of days, when they ripen. If you need a perfectly ripe avocado, you can use the following tips to choose the right ones.

You can check the avocado by color and touch:

  1. Color. If the avocado is green, most likely it’s not ripe yet. Most avocados turn dark brown color when ripen.
  2. Touch. Perfectly ripe avocado should yield to firm gentle pressure. If it’s too hard, you will need to wait for a couple of days to use. If it’s soft, it’s probably already over-ripe and brown inside.

I like to add them to my Healthy Chicken Wraps, Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash, Sweet Potato Quinoa Salad, and use it as a topping for my favorite Beef Chili Recipe.

How to make it

This is probably one of the easiest recipes on this blog! You literally can make it in under 5 minutes from start to finish!

Cut the avocados in half, take out the pits and scoop out the flesh.

Rinse the cilantro, and cut out the stems.

Put avocados and cilantro in a food processor, add garlic, salt, and lime juice and process until smooth consistency.

You always want to taste the dip. You might want to adjust the salt and add more lime juice.

Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetables.

Options and Substitutions

  1. If you don’t like cilantro, you can easily substitute it with parsley. It also adds a lot of flavor, but not as strong.
  2. Instead of fresh garlic cloves, you can add garlic powder. Though, I think that fresh garlic provides a better aroma.

Tips for best results

  1. Always taste the avocado dip before serving. As we all have different tastes, you might want to add more salt or lime juice.
  2. There is no reason to mince fresh garlic, it will be fully blended with other ingredients.
  3. If you don’t have a food processor and use a fork to mash the avocados, I would finely chop the cilantro before mixing it in. Also, use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic.
