Ingredients and substitution
- Flatbread. Pita bread is my favorite to use in this recipe. If you cannot find it in your store, you can simply use naan bread.
- Pizza sauce. Try to choose a good quality sauce with simple organic ingredients. My favorite brand is Cucina Antica (not sponsored).
- Mozzarella cheese. Any fresh mozzarella cheese will work, you just need to slice it to fit the flatbread.
- Tomatoes. I like to use cherry or plum tomatoes as they have more flavor. Regular tomatoes will also work, just make sure they are not too juicy.
- Extras. Sometimes, I like to top the Margherita Flatbread pizza with some balsamic drizzle or pesto for extra flavor.
How to make it
Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place the flat bread on the baking sheet.
Then top it with pizza sauce, slices mozzarella cheese, and tomatoes.
Sprinkle over dried basil and red pepper flakes.
Bake at 425°F for about 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and starts to bubble.
Take the pizzas out of the oven, top with fresh basil leaves and serve.
Tips for best results
- I like to line a baking sheet with parchment pepper, so when the cheese melts and leaks, it won’t stick to the baking pan and will be easier to clean.
- Preheat the oven ahead of time. The pizza will cook much faster and the cheese will melt better in the preheated oven.
- If your tomatoes are very juicy, you can pat dry them with paper towel to absorb extra liquid, so the pizza won’t come out soggy.
