Elevate your salad with this amazing homemade Maple Dijon Dressing! The sweet maple syrup and tangy Dijon mustard create a flavorful vinaigrette. With just a few simple ingredients, you can transform an ordinary salad into a delicious addition to any meal.
Maple Dijon salad dressing is a delicious and versatile vinaigrette that can be used on a variety of salads. The combination of the sweet maple syrup and the tangy Dijon mustard creates a unique flavor that is both refreshing and satisfying.
This recipe is the base for my other popular vinaigrettes, like Citrus Salad Dressing and Lemon Dijon Dressing.
Ingredients and Substitution
- Olive oil. Always use good quality extra-virgin olive oil. It makes a big difference in building the base to “marry” all the flavors together.
- Vinegar. I love using white wine vinegar for a classic vinaigrette. You can also use red wine, champagne, apple cider, or balsamic vinegar. They will work great but will change the flavor.
- Dijon mustard. Dijon mustard helps to emulsify the vinaigrette to get the right consistency. My favorite brand is Grey Poupon (not sponsored) but you can use any other brand that you prefer or have on hands.
- Maple syrup. I usually use maple syrup in my salad dressing, but you can easily substitute with with honey.
- Garlic powder. This extra ingredient adds a nice touch of aroma for another layer of complexity. You can also use fresh minced garlic for bolder garlicy flavor.
- Salt. This is needed to balance the flavors.
How to make it
In a Mason jar or a bowl, add all the ingredients (¼ cup olive oil, 2 tbsp white wine vinegar, 1 ½ tbsp Dijon mustard, ¾ tbsp maple syrup, ¼ tsp garlic powder, and ⅛ tsp salt).
Close the jar with a lid and shake it well until all ingredients are combined. Or, if you mix them in a bowl, just whisk until smooth consistency.
Pour over the salad or put in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Expert Tips
- Taste it. Depending on the ingredients and brands you use, you might need to adjust the ingredient proportions. After you mix everything, just taste it and make the necessary adjustments.
- Use a Mason jar. I always like to make a big batch of this vinaigrette in a Mason jar. It’s easy to mix all the ingredients by shaking the jar, and then keep in the refrigerator to use when needed.
